Thank you or not?

Was chatting with a friend a while ago about people saying 'thank you' for the sake of saying it -- w/o even meaning it from their hearts.

Do you find yourself in such a situation.What do you do then?Will you just say 'thank you' still or say 'thank you' only if you really mean it in your heart?
