"The more we hold onto something; the more it'll have a hold over us."

Was talking to a friend and this revelation came to me!

So many times, we hold onto something/someone so tightly that at the end of the day, this thing/person has a hold on/over us.

For instance, we hold onto our ministry very tightly, then, when something happens, we get so disturbed by it.

We hold into someone very tightly, then, when he/she doesn't respond in the way we expected, we get disturbed by it.

Hold onto everything tightly (in the sense of treasuring it); however, be ready to give it up when the time is right.
