A few friends and I went to Starbucks for a cuppa after Korean dinner today and we had a very interesting discussion regarding some current issues.
As I was pondering about the time we spent, it reminded me of the verse in Matthew 5: 13,
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men." - Matthew 5: 13
This gave me an instant revelation - that we are salt of the world, and we need to stay current with what's going on in the society nowadays. Sometimes, these issues are not things that will interest us. However, if we fail to keep ourselves current and lag behind, we can no longer be relevant to the people around us - we lose our saltiness.
Hence, wherever we are, let's make it a point to be current with the issues that are happening around us. However, in the midst of it all, let's also watch ourselves that we do not end up conforming to the world. For we are IN the world, but not OF the world.
